EUGENE, Ore. Sheree Shea closed out a brilliant career in an LMU uniform Thursday night with a 13th place finish in the 10,000m at the 2014 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
In what was tabbed as one of the fastest 10k races at an NCAA Championship, as the first 10 finishers all went under 33:13 for the first time in meet history, Shea earned Second Team All-American status with her personal record time of 33:32.29. The mark crushed her previous best of 33:53.54 set during the 2011 season.
Shea, who was the third Lion female to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track Championships, joins only Tara Erdmann in the LMU elite class of All-American.
Lion senior Weston Strum will officially close out the 2013-14 season for LMU Athletics Friday night when he races in the 5,000m. Strum represents the first Lion male to qualify for the NCAA Championships after earning one of the advancing dozen in the 5,000m with his 13:52.00 finish at the West Preliminary.
Strum's seed time of 13:52.00, which is just shy of his career, and LMU, record of 13:47.28, is the seventh best seed time in the field of 25.
The men's 5k will be the final event on Friday, June 13 with a start time of 6:10 p.m. (PT).
ESPN will provide exclusive coverage of the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships from Eugene, Ore.
