BOSTON, Mass. -- LMU redshirt senior Danielle Shanahan got the Lions' track and field season started on Saturday in Boston as she competed in the 5,000m race at Boston University's Indoor Track & Field Season Opener. Shanahan finished in ninth place overall with a time of 15:54.30.

This event was an opportunity for Shanahan to run an early season indoor mark in the 5,000 meters. If her mark from today's meet is one of the top-16 in the country at the end of the indoor regular season, she will qualify for the NCAA Championships in College Station, Texas March 9-10.

Before today's meet, Shanahan last hit the track at the NCAA Championships in June, when she earned All-American honors after her 11th-place finish in the 5,000 meters at the historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. The redshirt senior recently competed in the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Louisville, Ky. On Nov. 18, placing 43rd overall, just three places shy of All-American honors.
