LOS ANGELES— LMU sophomore track & field athlete Drew Dalton has been selected to participate in the University of Portland’s “West Coast All-Star Mile” this Thursday on the indoor track inside the Chiles Center in Portland, Ore.  Dalton will run with other elite competitors during halftime of the LMU-Portland men’s basketball game.

This year’s halftime event will also include runners from Santa Clara, as well as other colleges and athletic clubs.  LMU’s representative, Drew Dalton, won the 3000m at the Spring Break Invitational with a personal best 8:24.45 last spring.  Dalton also recorded a personal best in the 5000m at the Oxy Invitational, where he finished 13th overall.

The West Coast All-Star Mile is a race organized by the University of Portland, traditionally held during halftime of a Portland Pilots basketball game.  The event was revived last year by Portland men’s cross-country and track & field coach Rob Conner, who last year invited the University of San Francisco to participate.  Last year’s event was won Portland’s Jared Bassett in 4:11.38.   This year’s race was open to all West Coast Conference teams in addition to other competitors.
