LMU Track will get a head start on the season by sending four athletes to Seattle, Wash. this weekend to compete in the Husky Classic hosted by the University of Washington. Jack Polerecky, Danielle Shanahan and Maddi Vorgitch will start things off on Friday night in the 5000m. On Saturday night, true freshman Alex Beitia will compete in the 3000m.

Shanahan is coming off a red hot fall Cross Country season that saw her qualify for her third NCAA Championship. Then in December she ran 15:54.30 at the Boston University season opener which is currently the 13th-fastest time in the NCAA indoors. Shanahan will be looking to better her mark and move further up the list in hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Indoor Championships in March.

Alex Beitia is coming off a stellar freshman season that saw her earn All-Conference honors for her 13th-place finish at the West Coast Conference Cross Country Championships in October. She went on to finish 34th at the West Region meet which is the second-highest finish ever for an LMU freshman. Beitia is a Footlocker qualifier from Granite Bay HS who ran 10:21.73 last year as a senior in HS which was one of the top-25 times in the country for 3200m.

Maddi Vorgitch capped off her fall season with a top-20 finish at the grueling conference championship, helping the women's team to a third-place finish behind two teams that would eventually qualify for nationals. A self-avowed "long distance runner by nature," Maddi will be looking to qualify for Regionals in the 10K later in the season and will use this as an opportunity to gauge early season fitness.

Polerecky lowered the school record in the 10K last June, running 29:30.69. He has a 5000m best of 14:17.02 outdoors from last year and will be looking to run close to that on UW's 307 meter indoor track.

Shanahan will toe the line Friday at 5:10PM against an elite field in the Women's Invitational 5K race. Vorgitch will be in heat 3 at approximately 6:05 p.m. and Polerecky will also be in heat 3 of the men's 5K commencing at approximately 7:05 p.m. Beitia will compete in heat 3 of Saturday's 3K with a 12:15 p.m. start time.
