LMU's brief indoor season off to a successful start for Erdmann and LaCava
Feb. 14, 2010
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - This weekend Daniel LaCava and Tara Erdmann of the LMU Track team travelled to the University of Washington Huskie Indoor Track Invitational. Both LaCava and Erdmann competed in the 3000meter race on the Dempsey Indoor Track as part of a brief indoor track season to elevate the Lion's competition. In addition Lion's assistant coach Ali Mann competed in the mile race for Nike team LA and qualified for USATF Indoor Nationals in the mile.
Junior Tara Erdman ran a 9:31.47 in the second heat of the 3000meter race. For her first race on the track all season, Erdmann held her own against some of the top runners in the country from nationally ranked schools such as University of Washington, Penn, Oklahoma, and Arizona. This time also provisionally qualifies Erdmann for nationals having just slipped under the 9:32 qualifying time. Coming off a redshirt cross country season, with this early success, Erdmann is looking to haav a great track season.
Coach Scott Guerrero said, "This year we are running a brief indoor season. It really is a good chance for more competitive opportunities. For Tara coming off a redshirt cross country season, this is a good chance for her to get back into racing and break up the months of just training."
Daniel LaCava also ran the 3000m race, finishing 20th overall in his heat. After leading the majority of the race he was out kicked in the final 600meters to run an 8:29.55 for 3000meters. After redshirting at Arkansas his final track season, this is his first season back racing with consistent training under his belt. Coach Scott Guerrero commented, "It was Daniel's first 3k in two years, and while it didn't finish the way we hoped, he is just getting back into racing."
In other competition, LMU assistant coach Ali Mann who runs for Nike Team LA qualified for USATF Indoor Nationals for the mile. Mann won her heat with a 4:47.03 just under the qualifying 4:47.5 time. As her last chance to qualify, there was much celebration from LMU when her time showed up on the score board, under 4:47.5 to qualify her.
