Lions Set For Occidental Distance Carnival
LMU continues competition this Friday in Eagle Rock, Calif.

This Week on the Track... - The Loyola Marymount men's and women's track teams will compete in the Occidental Distance Carnival in Eagle Rock, Calif. this Friday. For anyone wishing to come out and support the Lions, the meet takes place on March 17 and gets underway at 6:00 p.m. Directions to the meet can be found here.

A Look at the Competition... - The Lions will face strong competition from teams around Southern California and the nation this weekend. Some of the teams include Hawaii, Yale, Pepperdine, Redlands, Fresno Pacific, Ventura College, La Verne, Occidental College, Wayne State, Pomona-Pitzer, LA Trade Tech, Vanguard and Cal Tech.
For the Lion Men... - A total of 16 Lions will be competing in three individual events.
For the Lion Women... - A total of 14 women will be competing in three individual events.

Last Time on the Track... - The Loyola Marymount men's and women's track teams had a successful outing despite the unfavorable weather last weekend at the Ben Brown Invitational. The teams combined for two school records and five event heat winners.
Adam Stebbins re-broke his own school record while winning his heat of the men's 400m in a time of 51.9. Meanwhile in the women's 400m, Lori Sims established a new school record time of 62.1, finishing sixth in her heat.
Next on the track was Kacy Sommers who ran a personal best time of 2:04.22 to win his heat of the men's 800m.
Claudia Bishop narrowly missed breaking her own school-record when she placed sixth overall in a time of 4:49.91 in the women's 1500m. The Lions dominated the second heat of the women's 1500m when Melani Hom and Kristen Gonzalez finished first and second, both setting new personal record times of 4:52.96 and 4:56.17.
Laura Mickelson and Sara Mickelson placed fifth and eighth overall in the 5000m while running very respectable times of 17:19.85 and 17:39.58 considering the conditions. Laura Mickelson was the top collegiate finisher in the women's 5000m.
Drew Haberkorn finished fifth in his heat in the 5000m and set a personal record time of 15:33.67, breaking his previous best time by 27 seconds. The day concluded with Chris Eagan's victory in the final heat of men's 5000m in a personal record time of 16:15.94
Last Year... - The Lions broke multiple school records while competing at the Occidental Distance Carnival. Then-freshman Claudia Bishop started the day off by placing fifth and breaking the women's 1500m school-record in a time of 4:51.15. The next record-breaking performance came when freshman Laura Mickelson ran 17:58.54, placing fourth in the women's 5000m and breaking the previous record she set the week prior. Next up was Reynaldo Barrera, who ran a school record time of 4:09.72 in the men's 1500m, breaking the three-year-old mark of 4:11.71.
