Last Time on the Track... -The men's and women's track teams continued their inaugural season in fine fashion Friday night under the lights at the Occidental College Distance Carnival.

The evening started off with a bang as Claudia Bishop, Kristen Gonzalez and Melani Hom finished 2-3-4 in the women's 800m. Their times of 2:20.50, 2:20.66, and 2:20.94 were not only all personal bests, but also were all under the old school record of 2:21.50 set by Bishop earlier this year.

Next up in the men's 800m, junior Reynaldo Barrera finished seventh overall in a time of 1:59.58. Also recording a collegiate best was newcomer Mo Elmi, who finished 12th in 2:00.94.

In the women's 1500m, sophomore Sara Mickelson was set to go after the school record of 4:48.79, however it was not to be. After suffering a bad fall within the first 200m of the race, Mickelson bounced up and managed to finish a very respectable sixth place in a time of 4:53.3, still a personal best. Freshman Caitlin Jennings was the next Lion finisher in 5:20.7, bettering her mark by seven seconds from earlier this season.

In the men's 1500m, sophomore Alex Rendon was the top Lion finisher in 4:20.28, peeling an impressive 11 seconds off his personal best set just last weekend at the Ben Brown Invitational.

The final event of the evening for the Lions was the 5000m run, which consists of 12.5 laps around the oval. Here again, records fell as the Lions combined for seven top-10 finishes and 12 personal bests. In the men's race, junior team captain Drew Haberkorn, sophomore Jonathan Macneil, and freshman Trevor Wiseman finished 5-6-7 in personal record times of 15:29.49, 15:33.36 and 15:35.61 respectively. Other Lion finishers included Mo Elmi (16:09.40), Reynaldo Barrera (16:12.3), Damian Kearney (16:21.68), Chris Eagan (16:22.59), Anthony Gutierrez (16:26.73), and Sean Sisk (16:27.26).

In the women's race, Abby Fall (18:27.03), Brittany Rezowalli (18:32.43), Kristen Gonzalez (18:33.32) and Claudia Bishop (18:42.59) all recorded top-10 finishes. Also competing for the Lions were Kelly Yahr (19:13.70), Melani Hom (19:26.25), and freshman Ahnie Draper (20:01.79)
