April 14, 2011
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - This weekend the LMU Track team will travel to two different meets in Southern California. Over the course of the weekend, from Thursday through Saturday, the Lions will race at the Mt.Sac Invitational and the Long Beach State Invitational. The Lions will up against some of the top competition in the nation; Mt. Sac has a long standing reputation for hosting some of the fastest races in the nation, while Long Beach State has drawn some of the top competition in the region over the past couple years.
LMU's Tara Erdmann will lead the Lions in the Mt. Sac Invitational on Friday in the 5000m Invitational Race. Last weekend, Erdmann set the meet record at the UCLA RJ/JJK Invite in the mile and will be looking for a fast 5k time this weekend. Sheree Shea and Tyre Johnson will also represent the Lions at Mt.Sac in the women's and men's 10,000meter race for their first 10k races of the 2011 season. Both Shea and Johnson have also recorded strong starts to their season so far, Shea broke five minutes last weekend at UCLA for the mile while Johnson broke fifteen minutes in the 5k earlier this spring.

This pack has been racing strong together all season and in a competitive heat, they will be looking to set personal records.

Phillip Benavides, Michael Carlone, Mike Herrera, RJ Larrieu, and Dan Smith are also entered in the 1500m race and with a good pack of to race with, the Lions will have the opportunity to record some fast times. Oran Arms will drop down a distance and race the 800m for the Lions while the rest of the squad are entered in the 5k. In the 5k distance, the Lions will once again be looking to freshman Drew Dalton and Kevin Joerger to lead the Lions with freshman Henry Jordan also looking for a big personal best.
