A Step, Stride, and Cut Above the Rest

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Junior Tara Erdmann has been making headlines for her recent success across the nation and arguably is the best runner LMU has ever seen. Currently Erdmann is the only female in the nation to be ranked in the top five nationally in both the 5,000 and 10,000 meter distance races. This season Erdmann has already set four school records, four personal bests and has been nationally ranked in all four of the distances she has competed in.

Erdmann recently ran a 15:55 in the 5,000 meters which is not only a huge personal and a school record, but this also puts her in an elite club of eight total women who have broke the 16 minute mark for the 5k in Track and Field. This is quite an impressive achievement since there are 774 NCAA institutions sponsor the sport of Women's Outdoor Track & Field (across all three divisions). And across all NCAA (774) and NAIA (161) institutions who sponsor the sport of Women's Outdoor Track & Field, there are only 8 women have run under this 16 minutes for the 5000m this season and only 7 women have run sub-33:30 for the 10,000m this season. Erdmann has accomplished both with humble poise all the while representing LMU in her lion jersey. Her success has truly shown what true dedication and hard work, (and of course some talent) can make a runner.

Flotracker recently spotlighted Tara in one of their athlete interviews, check out the full interview: Flotrack.org
