Oxy Invite On Tap
Most of the LMU men's and women's track team members will conclude the 2015 season Saturday at the Oxy Invite.
LOS ANGELES - As the LMU men's and women's track seniors walk down the graduation aisle this weekend, the bulk of the remaining Lions will hit the track for the final time this spring as the squad descends on the 2015 Oxy Invitational Saturday.
For the women, juniors Kelli Sugimoto and Kelly Parsons, sophomore Lorena Garcia and freshman Madelyn Vorgitch will race in the 5,000m, while junior Alexandra Young will compete in the 1,500m run and sophomore Kayla de Bondt will look to lower her time in the 800m.
Sugimoto enters the weekend with a 5k best time of 16:20.27, which ranks 41st among NCAA Division I West Region athletes.
The men will be led by junior Michael Duncan who will again compete in the 3,000m steeplechase, one week after shaving 14 seconds off his personal best in the event. He enters the Oxy Invite with a PR of 9:11.02, which ranks 69th in the West Region.
Sophomore Grant Lapovich will join Duncan in the 3k steeple while junior Lance Capel and freshman Harry Loasby will tackle the 5,000m for a final time this year. Entered in the men's 1,500m run are junior Ryan Vargas and freshmen Joel Kramer, Waseem Radi and Nicolas Wells.
The top 48 declared marks in each event will qualify for the 2015 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field West Regional which will be held May 28-30 at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas.
