A Look at the Competition - The Lions will be facing strong competition from teams around Southern California.

For the Lion Men - Adam Stebbins will be competing in the 400m at approximately 4:30 p.m.

For the Lion Women - Laura Mickelson and Sara Mickelson will be competing in the 5000m at approximately 4 p.m.

Last Time on the Track -The Loyola Marymount women's track team ran at the Cardinal Invitational while the men's team competed at the Steve Scott Invitational. Laura Mickelson and Sara Mickelson both competed in the second heat of the 5000m where they were looking to get under the NCAA regional qualifying standard of 16:52.

The race began beneath the lights and under perfect conditions for running with the temperature in the upper 50's with no wind. Their heat was highly competitive, including both collegiate and professional athletes.

After a brisk first lap, the pack settled in with both Lions in perfect position. Unlike previous races, they were able to let the other athletes take care of pace setting duties, which allowed them to conserve much needed energy. The leaders, including Laura, came through the mile in 5:18 with Sara right on their heels.

With a mile to go, Laura was battling for the lead and was well ahead of regional qualifying pace. The race was going to come down to a final one-lap sprint. Heading down the backstretch, Laura was a few meters behind, looking strong, but she just ran out of track. She finished second in a regional qualifying time of 16:30.04, which was a huge 27-second personal-record, shattering the school-record. After falling off the lead pack, Sara finished with a strong kick to take seventh in the heat, just eclipsing the qualifying time in an equally huge 27-second personal-record time of 16:49.3. Both of their times qualify them for the NCAA Western Regional Championships that will be held in Provo, Utah on May 26 and 27. The men's track team took four athletes to compete in the Steve Scott Invitational hosted by UC Irvine.

The first event on the track was the men's 400m, which started the record breaking day. Freshman Adam Stebbins ran a time of 50.87 to place third in his heat and break his own school record of 51.36, which he set on the very same track five weeks prior.

Next up for the Lions was the men's 1500m, where Trevor Wiseman capped off a stellar freshman season by winning his heat and breaking the school record in the process. His time of 4:03.13 bettered the school record time of 4:05.64 set by Reynaldo Barrera on the same track five weeks before. Also in the same heat was Barrera, who finished ninth in a time of 4:12.53.

The final event on the track for the Lions was the men's 5000m. Mo Elmi was the lone Lion athlete, but he held his own taking the lead early on in the race. Elmi finished sixth in a time of 15:48.54.

Last Year - The Lions will be competing in the Occidental Invitational for the first time.
