Final Chance to Qualify for NCAA Regionals
A dozen Lions head to Salem, Ore., and the West Coast Invite for a final shot at lowering their times before the NCAA Regional announcement.

LOS ANGELES A select group of Lions travel to Salem, Ore., and the 2014 West Coast Invite, hosted by Willamette University Thursday, May 15, as the LMU track teams take one final shot at increasing their NCAA Regional qualifiers list.
On the women's side, Sheree Shea, Danielle Shanahan, Lyndsey Mull and Chloe Curtis will race in the 1,500m, Kyra Burke will compete in the 3,000m steeple, and Grace Graham-Zamudio and Kelli Sugimoto will race the 5,000m.
Entering the weekend, five Lions rank in the top 48 in their respective events among all NCAA Division I West Region competitors, including Weston Strum (18th in the 1,500m and 17th in the 5,000m), Kevin Joerger (47th in the 10,000m) Sheree Shea (8th in the 5,000m and 13th in the 10,000m), Grace Graham-Zamudio (42nd in the 10,000m) and Danielle Shanahan (28th in the 5,000m).
Two Lions sitting just outside the regional qualifying group of 48 are steeplechase competitors Vorgitch and Burke. Vorgitch enters this weekend ranked 67th with a time of 9:08.29. Burke is ranked 68th with a time of 10:42.22. Both hold LMU all-time records in the event with those career-best times. Sugimoto will be seeking to enter the NCAA field in the 5,000m as she enters this final meet ranked 72nd with a time of 16:36.53.
In 2013, four Lions advanced to the NCAA West Regional, including Shea and Caroline Draper on the women's side and Strum and Joerger on the men's side. Strum and Joerger represented the first-ever males from the LMU track program to achieve regional qualification.
The official NCAA Regional Qualifiers list will be released Thursday, May 22 with the West Regional beginning May 29 in Fayetteville, Ark.
