LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Four Lions are headed to the NCAA Division I 2013 Outdoor Track & Field Championships West Preliminary Round May 23-25 at the University of Texas as the final declaration lists were announced Thursday morning.
Senior Sheree Shea leads the quartet of Lions, earning a spot in both the 5,000m and 10,000m. Her seed time of 16:13.75 in the 5K ranks 23rd in the West Region while her seed time of 34:21.28 in the 10K is good for 19th.
Also earning a berth on the women's side is senior Caroline Draper who will compete along with Shea in the 10K. Draper's career-best time in the event is 35:18.87, which also ranks fifth in LMU's all-time record book.
Strum brings an LMU all-time best time of 13:57.42 into the 5K race while Joerger enters the 10K race with an LMU all-time best time of 29:38.26.
"This is a great day for our program," said LMU Head Coach Scott Guerrero. "Every spring, it is a major goal of ours to qualify athletes for the postseason. The West Region is enormous, extending as far east as Illinois, so it is very tough to qualify.
"With that said, we are sending a record number of LMU jerseys to Austin, including our first-ever participants on the men's side. On top of that, our two 1500m women were less than one second and less than two seconds away from qualifying. All-in-all it's been a stellar season and it's still going."
