Polerecky and Vorgitch To Compete At NCAA West Preliminary Next Thursday

LOS ANGELES -- A pair of Loyola Marymount track & field seniors, Jack Polerecky and Maddi Vorgitch, have qualified to participate in the West Preliminary of the 2018 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

This marks the sixth consecutive year, and 12th overall in the 13 years of sponsoring women's track, and since the re-establishment of the men's program, that the Lions have advanced athletes into the postseason.

The Men's and Women's Division I Outdoor Track and Field preliminary competitions are scheduled for May 24-26. Sacramento State will host the west preliminary, which Polerecky and Vorgitch will be participating in, at Hornet Stadium. Polerecky and Vorgitch will compete in the 10,000 meters on Thursday, May 24 at 9:00 p.m. (men's) and 9:40 p.m. (women's) PT.

The east preliminary will be held at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. The qualifiers out of these two regions will compete in the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships which will be held June 6-9 in Eugene, Oregon.

Polerecky's season-finale time of 29:18.14 ranks him 33rd in the West Region. Polerecky also finished the regular season 61st in the West Region in the 5,000 meters with his time of 14:03.12.

Vorgitch ran a personal best time of 16:48.81 for 5,000 meters in the final regular season meet of 2018. She was 18th in an elite field of mostly professional runners and the 5th collegian in the race.
