LOS ANGELES - The outdoor track season continues this weekend for two LMU runners as redshirt junior Tara Erdmann and sophomore Sheree Shea head to the NCAA West Regional meet, hosted by the University of Oregon in Eugene, Ore. Both will race Thursday night in the 10,000m while Erdmann will return to the track on Saturday morning to run the 5,000m.

Erdmann (Tucson, Ariz.) made school history this season by becoming the first track athlete to qualify for three regional events and will be the first to compete in two. A three-time All-American, including last season in the 10K, she will also be racing at the West Regional meet for the third consecutive year. Earlier this season, Erdmann ran the fastest 10,000m time in the world this year, 33:10.15 at the Stanford Invitational on March 26, and enters this Thursday's meet with the top time in NCAA Division I.

Last week at the West Coast Invitational at Willamette University, Erdmann set a new school and meet record in the 1500m to qualify for that regional event. Instead, she will run in the 5K race on Saturday afternoon after posting a qualifying time of 15:50.20 on May 1 at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational. Her time is a school record and ranks fifth in the region.

Shea (San Diego, Calif.) will also compete in Thursday night's 10K race, having posted a 34:02.85 at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 14. Her time is the 22nd-fastest in the region. Shea, who raced in the West Regional 5K last season as a freshman, also qualified for that event this year but declined entrance to focus on the 10K.

The 10K race is slated to begin at 7:10 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, with the top 12 finishers advancing to the nationals. The 5K first heat is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. on Saturday, with the top five finishers, plus the next two fastest times from the two heats, moving on. The NCAA National Championships will be held June 8-11 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
