NCAA West Preliminary on Tap for Track Trio
Competition begins Thursday at Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence, Kan.
LOS ANGELES - A bid to advance to the NCAA Championships begins Thursday for the LMU track trio of Danielle Shanahan, Kayla de Bondt and Kelli Capel as they descend on Rock Chalk Park on the campus of the University of Kansas for the 2016 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field West Preliminary.
de Bondt will be the first Lion to hit the track, competing in the 1,500m prelims at 5:30 p.m. Central Standard Time. Should she advance, she will race in the semifinals on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. local.
Shanahan and Capel will both race in the 5,000m semifinals on Saturday at 8:05 p.m. local.
The top 12 from each event in each of the two preliminary regional competitions advance to the NCAA Championships June 8-11 in Eugene, Ore.
This marks the fourth consecutive year, and 10th overall in the 11 years of sponsoring women’s track (and since the re-establishment of the men’s program), that the Lions have advanced athletes into the postseason.
