LOS ANGELES - Championship season begins Thursday for LMU track as four Lions embark to Austin, Texas and the campus of the University of Texas for the 2015 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field West Preliminary.

Grace Graham-Zamudio, Danielle Shanahan and Kelli Sugimoto all make their second NCAA Outdoor Track appearance while Kayla de Bondt competes in the NCAA postseason for the first time.

Action for LMU begins Thursday, May 28 with de Bondt racing in the 1,500m first round at 5:30 pm (CT). The sophomore is the first Lion to qualify for the 1,500m run at the NCAA's, entering with a season-best time of 4:23.71.

Graham-Zamudio will also race on Thursday, tackling the semifinals of the 10,000m run at 9:00 pm (CT). The senior gained entry into the field with a season-best time of 34:32.06.



Should de Bondt advance to the 1,500m quarterfinals, she will race again on Saturday, May 30 at 6:30 pm (CT). Shanahan and Sugimoto will be the final Lions to compete, taking on the 5,000m semifinals on Saturday at 8:05 pm)CT). Shanahan enters the postseason with season-best time of 16:08.82 while Sugimoto's best time is 16:20.27.

This marks the third consecutive year, and ninth overall in the 10 years of sponsoring women's track (and since the re-establishment of the men's program), that the Lions have advanced athletes into the postseason. Four qualifiers ties the second most advancing in a season, matching the four that qualified in 2013.

The top 12 from each event in each of the two preliminary regional competitions advance to the NCAA Championships June 10-13 in Eugene, Ore.
