Erdmann Set to Make LMU History Friday Night
Trackster goes in 5,000m national final
June 10, 2011
DES MOINES, Iowa - Tara Erdmann is set to become the first LMU female trackster to compete in two different events at the NCAA Outdoor Track Championships when she returns to the track Friday night for the 5,000m final. Erdmann, who on Wednesday ran the 10,000m, will race at 6:10 p.m. Pacific Time.
Erdmann (Tucson, Ariz.) will enter tonight's race having finished 10th at the West Regional on May 28 in a time of 16:08.27. She will start tonight's race in first position out of the 24 entrants. She has run as fast as 15:50.20, a school record and the fifth-fastest time in Division I this year, at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational on May 1. However, three of the runners who posted faster times this year will not be competing in the event.
A three-time All-American in three different events, Erdmann is aiming to add a fourth to her already-illustrious resume. She was an All-American last spring in the 10,000m in outdoor track, in the fall in cross country, and in the winter in the 3,000m in indoor track. Fans can follow her race live online via the NCAA website.
