LOS ANGELES - LMU's Tara Erdmann will take a shot at qualifying for the 2011 IAAF World Championships when she returns to the track at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, for the USA Track & Field Championships. Erdmann, a five-time All-American, will race on Thursday in the 10,000m in an attempt to advance to the World Championships in Lille, France July 6-10.

Earlier this month, Erdmann (Tucson, Ariz.) earned All-American honors for the fourth and fifth times in her illustrious career with a 12th-place finish in the 5,000m and a 21st-place finish in the 10,000m at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track National Championships. In doing so, she claimed a place on the All-America team for each of the past four seasons, including all three during the 2010-11 academic year.

On March 24 at the Stanford Invitational, Erdmann ran the fastest 10,000m time in Division I this year, 33:10.15. As one of 28 entrants at the USATF Championships, she will be chasing the IAAF "A" qualifying standard of 31.40.00 or the "B" qualifying standard of 32:00.00. The top three (3) rank order finishers in each event at the 2011 USA Track & Field Championships will automatically select themselves to the USATF team for the World Championships, provided that each has achieved the applicable IAAF "A" Standard. The next ranked order finisher shall serve as the alternate, provided that she has achieved at least the applicable IAAF "B" Standard.
