EUGENE, Ore. -- Former Lion Tara Erdmann earned a spot in Thursday's 5k final at the 2012 Olympic trials in Eugene, Ore. after finishing fourth overall on Monday in her heat with a time of 15:49.98. Sixteen athletes will compete in Thursday's race, as the top-six in each heat are joined by the next four fastest times that did not automatically qualify based on finish. The top-three finishers in the race who have the Olympic A standard time of 15:20.0 will represent USA at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
In addition to her run in the 5k, Erdmann also competed in the 10,000 meter Olympic qualifying race last Friday, June 22. The native of Tucson, Ariz. placed sixth overall in a personal-best time of 32:09.15, just 10 seconds out of the top-three.
