LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association recently published its annual Division I Track & Field All-Academic Teams, and LMU once again exemplified the balance between student and athlete as the women's and men's track teams were both among the teams with the highest GPA in the nation.

LMU's women's track & field team was named a Division I All-Academic team and tied for the 8th highest GPA in the country out of 164 teams recognized. The team had the 2nd best GPA in the WCC and achieved a higher GPA than all schools of the Pac-12 conference, and also exceeded most Ivy League teams. The men's team ranked tied for 16th highest GPA of the 90 schools recognized.

"We preach all the time that we want student-athletes for whom academics are a true priority and who are committed to performing in the classroom as well as on the field. We like to compete in everything that we do so it is nice to be recognized among the best in the nation in terms of our academic success." said Scott Guerrero, head coach. "It's a true testament to the hard work and dedication of our student-athletes."

Cross country begins its season at the Fullerton Season Opener on the campus of Cal State Fullerton in Brea, Calif. on Sept. 3.
