Lions Finish Regular Season Strong In Last Meet Before WCC Championships
Conference titles by men's soccer and women's water polo highlight 2014 Lions Athletic Fund Iggy Awards on Thursday Night.
The LMU men's and women's cross country teams closed out their fall season placing 15th and 11, respectively, at the 2013 NCAA Division I West Regional Championship at Haggin Oaks Golf Course in Sacramento.
Racing at Alumni Park on the campus of Pepperdine University Saturday morning in Malibu, the LMU men's and women's cross country teams placed a respective third and fourth at the 2013 West Coast Conference Championships.
Batting thunderstorms, delays and a muddy course, the Lion women placed second while the men placed 5th at the 25th Annual Chile Pepper Invite.
In cross country... ran an 8k personal best 24:40.2 at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational... placed 23rd at the West Coast Conference Championships with a time of 25:01... placed 88th at the NCAA DI West Regional Championships with a personal best time of 31:42... WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll... In track... closed out his collegiate racing career with best times of 4:03.20 in the 1,500m at the Cal State LA Invite, 8:37.00 in the 3,000m at the West Coast Quadrangular, 14:41.28 in the 5,000m at the West Coast Invitational and 30:53.65 in the 10,000m at the West Coast Last Chance Meet...
Cross Country: Came in 59th at the BIG EAST Championships with a time of 26:19.82 ... Recorded a personal best time of 25:08 at the Paul Short Run and came in 68th in a field of 332 runners ... It was the second straight year he established a new career best time at that event ... Placed 49th out of 278 athletes in the unseeded race at the Pre-NCAA Meet and crossed the finish line in 25:10.5 ... Opened the season with an 18th place finish at the four-mile Main Line Invitational (19:57.10).
Cross Country: Competed at the BIG EAST Championships and came in 67th out of 123 runners with a time of 25:23.9 ... Opened the season at the Main Line Invitational and came in 11th out of 85 runners with a four-mile time of 20:02.20 ... Placed 64th overall and was fifth on the team at the Paul Short Run, covering the 8K course in a career-best time of 25:19 ... Finished 34th in the "B" race at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational (25:53).
Indoor Track: Finished 10th in the College section of the 5000 meters at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational with a time of 14:50.03 and came in 12th at the Great Dane Classic (15:16.33).
Outdoor Track: Ran the 10000 meters at the BIG EAST Championships and came in 15th with a time of 33:35.01 ... Competed twice during the season in the 5000 meters and registered a personal best time of 14:44.39 at the Sam Howell Invitational ... Came in 25th in the College section at the Penn Relays (14:53.98) ... Finished 13th out of 117 runners in the 1500 meters at the Danny Curran Invitational (4:01.33) ... Lowered his 1500 meters time to a personal best mark of 3:59.60 at the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet.
Cross Country: Ran in three races during the season and was part of the team's lineup at the Notre Dame Invitational, where he came in 97th with an 8K time of 25:34 ... Was the seventh Villanova finisher in that race ... Came in 10th at the Main Line Invitational and fourth at the Haverford Invitational with nearly identical four-mile times ... Had a time of 20:21.35 in his first race and 20:21.13 in his second race.
Indoor Track: Ran two races each in the 3000 meters and the 5000 meters ... Placed third in the 5000 meters with a then career-best time of 14:52.42 at the Albany Great Dane Invitational ... Also came in 17th in the college section of the race at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational (15:14.40) ... Placed seventh in the 3000 meters (8:55.07) at the Jack Pyrah Invitational and eighth in a personal best time of 8:39.64 at the NYRR I meet.
Outdoor Track: Ran the 10000 meters at the BIG EAST Championships and came in 12th with a time of 31:29.57 while running the event for the first time ... Set a personal best time in the 5000 meters at the Larry Ellis Invitational, where he came in 13th in his section with a mark of 14:47.07 ... Was also 13th in his section of the 5000 meters at the Colonial Relays with a time of 14:50.04 ... Came in 28th in the 1500 meters at the Big Five Invite to open the season, where he registered a time of 4:07.96 ... Established a personal best in the 1500 meters with a mark of 4:01.11 at the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet.
Philadelphia Catholic League champion in the outdoor 3200 meters as a senior at St. Joseph's Prep... also the individual cross country champion.
John Paul Pickhaver was born April 11, 1990 in Drexel Hill, Pa.... son of John (deceased) and Nancy ... Has three sisters, Caitlin, Julie and Kelly ... Earned his undergraduate degree in political science from Villanova in the spring of 2013... Pursuing a masters of fine arts in film at LMU...
