Rick Weis is in his fifth season with the LMU cross country and track programs as an assistant coach for the men's program. Weis' recruiting efforts and coaching has helped the Lion's distance program grow and gain recent success-contributing to a second place finished for three straight years at WCC Championships and a historical performance at WCC championships in 2008 with the men's lowest team total in school history and second place finish as the closest margin to Portland in thirty years. Weis had previously donated his time and talents to the Lions during the 2005-06 academic year.
Collegiately Weis ran cross country for the University of Arizona, earning a selection to the 2000 cross country all-region team. His 8k personal best came at the 2000 Pac-10 Cross Country Championships, where he ran a 24:49. He began his collegiate career at Loyola Marymount, filling the role of team captain and top runner his two seasons with the Lions. He set a new LMU record at the 1998 WCC Championships (27:01).
Since graduating from Arizona with a degree in business administration, Weis has worked as an associate media director. He is currently with Ground Zero Advertising in Marina del Rey, CA. He holds a Level 2 certification from USA Track and Field for distance. Weis is still an avid runner and competes in distances 5k through Marathons.
