Malibu, Calif. - The LMU men's and women's cross country teams easily defeated Pepperdine in the first dual meet of the season, run on Saturday morning in Malibu, Calif.

The men won easily 17-45 with five runners crossing the line in 16:00. On the women's side, it was a much closer race as the Lions edged Pepperdine, 25-31.

Along with Delaney, freshman Stephanie Felix and sophomore Tara Erdmann finished the three-mile race with a time of 19:16. Anchoring the pack were Abby Fall and Brooke Lademan with times of 19:18 and 19:19 respectively.  The women also improved drasticaly from last year's race where the LMU average was 19:41.

"Our goal on both the men's and women's sides was simply to keep five runners together to the finish.  Both teams did a great job and showed a lot of discipline and maturity," head coach Scott Guerrero said.

Next up for the lions is the UC Irvine Invitational on Saturday, September 6. The race starts at 9:00a.m.
