Lions Dominant at WCC Preview Meet
The Lions dominated the field Saturday morning in Malibu at the WCC Preview Meet, easily taking both team titles while Grace Graham-Zamudio and Weston Strum took top individual honors for the second time this season.

MALIBU, Calif. - Two meets each, two team and individual wins each for the LMU men's and women's cross country teams this 2013 season. The Lions dominated the field Saturday morning in Malibu at the WCC Preview Meet, easily taking both team titles while Grace Graham-Zamudio and Weston Strum took top individual honors for the second time this season.
Zamudio, Sheree Shea and Danielle Shanahan finished the 6k race 1-2-3 while five total Lions placed in the top 10. On the same course that the WCC Championships will be held, Graham-Zamudio finished in 20:50.90 followed by Shea in 20:57.53 and Shanahan in 21:16.52. Melanie Joerger was seventh in 21:58.59 and Kelli Sugimoto was 10th in 22:11.40.
As a team, the women won with 23 points, followed by Santa Clara in second (62 pts), Saint Mary's in third (99 pts), Pepperdine in fourth (103 pts), San Diego in fifth (114 pts), Pacific in sixth (156 pts) and Long Beach State in seventh (159 pts).
In the men's race, Strum, Kevin Joerger and Drew Dalton stayed as a tight pack for the majority of the 8k, trailing on the heels of leader Rajpaul Pannu from Saint Mary's. Down the stretch, however, Strum pulled away, and ahead of Pannu for his second straight individual victory of the year, crossing in 24:08.85. Joerger was third in 24:27.60 and Dalton was fourth in 24:36.61.
The Lions, who clinched the team battle with 22 points, had six finishers in the top 10. Saint Mary's placed second (60 pts), Santa Clara was third (73 pts), Long Beach State was fourth (98 pts), San Diego was fifth (141 pts) and Pepperdine was sixth (152 pts).
LMU's top runners will take a week off while the "B" squad will head to Santa Clarita, Calif., on Saturday, Sept. 28 to compete in the Mustang Challenge.
