Lions Past and Present Run the Manhattan Beach 10K
Crowd favorite Iggy the Lion makes second straight appearance, as LMU alum Rick Weis is the overall winner.

Manhattan Beach, Calif. - A Loyola Marymount alumnus was the overall winner at the Manhattan Beach 10K on Saturday, which serves as an Alumni Run for the LMU squads. The current teams welcomed LMU alums, including winner Rick Weis, to the annual race, which gave the current Lions a weekend off from collegiate competition.
Rick Weis, who spent the 1996 and 1997 seasons with the Lions, was the 10K's overall winner with a time of 32:46. Andy Thompson (2001-04) was next in 14th place overall at 36:10.
2000 West Coast Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year Michael Cortez (1997-2000) finished in 36:43, followed by Head Coach Scott Guerrero at 36:49 and Assistant Coach Warren Sutton (1999-2002) in 36:52. Other participating alumni included Mark Siegfried (1997-2000) and Jake Courtney (1981-1984).
Crowd favorite Iggy the Lion also made his second straight appearance in the Manhattan Beach 10K.
The Lions return to collegiate competition October 15 at the Cal Poly Invitational.
