Women Second, Men Fifth in Competitive Field at Chile Pepper Invite
Batting thunderstorms, delays and a muddy course, the Lion women placed second while the men placed 5th at the 25th Annual Chile Pepper Invite.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - It was another impressive showing for the LMU men's and women's cross country teams Saturday at the 25th Annual Chile Pepper Invitational at Agri Park in Fayetteville, Ark. Batting thunderstorms, delays and a muddy course, the Lion women placed second among 15 NCAA Division I teams while the men placed 5th in the 14-team DI field.
The women's second-place finish was runner-up to No. 9 nationally ranked Arkansas whose runners took first through fourth among collegiate competitors. In the field of 318 runners, LMU's Grace Graham-Zamudio was 14th overall, finishing the 5k in 17:38.8. Danielle Shanahan was 22nd in 17:53.6 and Sheree Shea was 34th in 18:18.3.
No. 6 nationally ranked Arkansas won the men's 8k, followed by No. 27 Villanova in second, Texas Tech in third, North Texas in fourth and LMU in fifth.
Weston Strum was LMU's top finisher for the fourth straight time this season, placing 10th overall in 24:42.7. In the field of 327, Kevin Joerger was 24th in 25:16.9, John Pickhaver was 52nd in 25:51.8, Drew Dalton was 53rd in 25:55.3 and Daniel Gibson was 57th in 25:56.6.
The Lions return to California for the remainder of their 2013 slate, beginning Oct. 12 in Costa Mesa at the Vanguard Invitational.
