Cross Country runs partial squad at Vanguard Invite

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - This Saturday morning the LMU Cross Country ran a partial squad at the Vanguard Invite at Fairview Park, Costa Mesa. Five LMU women raced for the Lions at 9:00am on a 5k course while the six LMU men ran at 10:00 am on an 8k course.

For the men, Greg Innes led the Lion's coming in 10th overall with a time of 26:08 for the 8k distance. Innes raced an all time PR for the 8k distance improving from his previous time of 26:22 at the UC Riverside Invitational to 26:08 at Vanguard. Following Innes, junior Michael Herrera came in 32nd overall running 27:08 with freshman Aaron Kurland close behind placing 34th overall with a time of 27:12. Freshman Michael Carlone also showed huge improvements running over a minute and thirty seconds faster from his first 8k race of the season; Carlone placed 41st overall with a time of 27:21. Rounding out the Lion's squad, Oran Arms and Jacques Delouche also put in a strong race coming in 84th overall. The men came in 7th overall against the Men of Troy, Westmont, Orange Coast College, Vanguard and Point Loma.

The women we led by sophomore Marissa Diehl who came in 42nd overall with a time of 19:18 for 5k distance. Sophomores Kelly McEnerney 19:55 and Stephanie Felix 19:56 also ran strong 5k's for the Lions placing in the top half of the race. Danielle Ferree and Shea Franklin rounded out the women's top five for the day.



Coach Scott Guerrero commented, "This meet gave our younger folks and those who will not be on our conference squad another chance to race before the post season begins. We had some big improvements on the men's side--it is always encouraging to see our freshmen come into their first season and do well at college distances."

The Lion's have been preparing to race a varsity top seven at the Arkansas Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival in Fayetteville, Arkansas next weekend on Saturday October 17th.
