LA JOLLA, Calif. - Racing a "B" squad of competitors at Saturday's UCSD Triton Invitational, the LMU men's and women's cross country teams took third and seventh, respectively.

The Lion men were led by senior Michael Duncan and freshman Ben Davis, who placed ninth and 11th among scoring competitors. Duncan completed the 8K in 27:14.95 while Davis' time was 27:19.94.

Also scoring for the Lion men were freshman Jordan McLennan, who placed 18th in 27:47.69, redshirt freshman Mat Holton, who placed 21st in 28:00.91, and freshman Joey Rodgers, who was 24th in 28:08.00. The quintet scored 83 team points for third place behind host UC San Diego (54 points) and Azusa Pacific (73 points).



For the women, freshman Elena Garcia was LMU's top finisher, taking 17th overall on the 6K course in 23:06.62. Senior Alexandra Young was 40th among scoring runners, finishing in 24:25.17. Senior Evelyn Gonzalez was 45th in 24:45.68, freshman Danielle Nunez was 46th in 24:47.31 and junior Kyra Burke was 66th in 26:02.11.

Two meets remain on LMU's schedule prior to the 2015 WCC Championships on Nov. 1. Next up for the Lions is the Bronco Invitational, hosted by Santa Clara on Saturday, Oct. 17.
