Four Top 10 Finishes at Vanguard Invite
LMU's men's cross country team took first place while the Lion women's team placed third.
COSTA MESA, Calif. - Paced by two Lions in each of the men's and women's races placing in their respective top ten, the LMU men's and women's cross country teams took first and third Saturday at the Vanguard Invitational at Fairview Park in Costa Mesa.
The Lion men totaled 76 points to easily beat runner-up UC Irvine which finished with 95 points. Cal Baptist was third with 96 points. Lance Capel was the top LMU finisher in the men's 8k, placing sixth among collegiate competitors in 25:35.51. Ryan Vargas followed in 10th in 26:01.95 and Grant Lapovich was 14th in 26:07.16. Rounding out the scoring Lions were Harry Loasby in 22nd (26:28.03) and Douglas Petree in 24th (26:30.23).
The women were led by Kyra Burke (17:42.72) and Samantha Garcia (17:51.46) who placed second and third, respectively, on the 5k course. Kelly Parsons was 25th in 18:58.13, Marisa Carino was 27th in 19:00.21 and Taylor Paschen was 28th in 19:00.84 to round out the scoring five.
LMU's women took third overall with 85 points behind Westmont (42 points) and Biola (63 points).
The Lion `A' squad returns to action for the first time since the Stanford Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 18 when they travel to Terre Haute, Ind., for the Pre National Invitational.
