Cross Country Finishes Strong at Bronco Invitational
LMU placed both teams within the top five for the fourth time this season
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – In its first of three races to close out October, the LMU men’s and women’s cross country teams wrapped up competition at the Bronco Invitational Saturday morning at Baylands Park.
The women’s team earned its third third-place finish of the season, totaling 148 points, while Southern Utah won the event with 60 points and UC Santa Barbara edged the Lions with 138 total points. The men’s team took fifth overall with 157 points as San Jose State took the men’s team title with 79 points and UCLA followed with 88.
In the women's 6K invitational, Marisa Carino tallied her second top-20 performance of the season, ticking in at 21:08.6 to take 20th. Emily Hubert finished 30th overall at 21:30.0, while Elena Garcia came in at 21:32.2 to place 39th and Hannah Wohlenberg followed two spots later at 21:34.4. Maddi Vorgitch claimed 45th at 21:39.3 to round out the women's squad point-earners.
Brandon Vientos led the men’s team with a 21st-place showing in the men's 8K invitaitonal, clocking in at season-best 24:22.3. Jack Polerecky tabbed the No. 32 spot at 24:33.5 and Mat Holton came in 41st with a time of 24:39.3. Koby Pederson took 54th at 24:46.6 and Christopher Fredlund tabbed 61st at 24:51.1 to round out the Lions top five finishers.
Up next, the Lions will trek to the Titan Invitational on Oct. 21 in Fullerton, California.
