Shanahan Scores Another Top-10 Finish

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Danielle Shanahan earned her fourth top-10 individual finish of the year to lead the LMU women's cross country team to a 20th place finish among 43 teams in the Blue Race at the Pre-Nationals Invitational hosted by Indiana State. Daniel Gibson was the top finisher on the men's team, which placed ninth among 28 competing programs in the Blue Race.

In a field of nearly 300 competitors, Shanahan placed 10th in the 6k race at LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in a time of 21:02.8. The sophomore was less than 20 seconds off the individual champion, Rachel Johnson from Baylor, who finished in 20:21.1. Senior Grace Graham-Zamudio took 15th overall in 21:09.8.

Kayla de Bondt was the Lions' third scorer, placing 133rd in 22:18.4. Kyra Burke was 186th in 22:38.2 and Kelli Sugimoto was 192nd in 22:41.3.

Gerogetown, ranked No. 4 in the latest USTFCCCA national poll, took the team title in the Blue Race, followed by No. 3-ranked Oregon in second and No. 1-ranked Michigan in third.

Gibson placed 29th overall in the men's White Race, finishing the 8k course in 25:50.3. Jack Polerecky was 39th in 25:56.4, Christopher Fredlund was 42nd in 25:58.4, Michael Duncan was 44th in 25:59.6 and Lance Capel was 86th in 26:29.1.

The Lions totaled 240 points for their ninth-place team finish. Top-25 ranked Indiana took first overall with 164 points, followed by Drake in second (170 points) and Loyola (Ill.) in third (171 points).
