Cross Country Closes Out Regular-Season

FULLERTON, Calif. - Racing in tight packs, the LMU men's and women's cross country teams closed out its regular-season slate with a pair of fifth-place team finishes at the Titan invitational Friday evening on the Cal State Fullerton campus.

The five Lion women took 25th through 29th place among competing collegiate runners on the 5k course. Junior Evelyn Gonzalez led that pack with her 19:27.9, 25th place finish. Freshman Marisa Carino was right behind in 26th place in 19:28.3. Alexandra Young was 27th in 19:50.3, Jessica Gonzales was 28th in 20:04.1 and Taylor Paschen was 29th in 20:10.7.

Sophomore Grant Lapovich was the top LMU finisher in the men's 8k, taking 16th among collegiate competitors in 26:03.1. The remaining Lions placed 24th through 33rd including Douglas Petree (24th, 26:24.4), Harry Loasby (27th, 26:51.6), Mitchell Cameron (29th, 27:01.3), Ryan Vargas (31st, 27:29.1) and Waseem Radi (33rd, 27:47.2).



Championship season is on deck for the Lions as the team's top runners will defend upon Baylands Park in Sunnyvale, Calif., on Saturday, Nov. 1 for the 2014 West Coast Conference Championships. The women's 6k will kick off the day at 10 a.m., followed by the men's 8k at 11 a.m. More information about the 2014 WCC Cross Country Championships can be found here.
