LMU proves depth defeating opponent's top squads on Friday afternoon.

Fullerton, Calif - In their final meet of the season, LMU Cross Country's "B" squad proved their dominance outlasting the majority of competitor's top runners including WCC opponent Pepperdine. LMU women's cross country won the women's race while the men finished 4th out of 7 teams.
On the women's side, the Lions defeated the top squads from UC Irvine, Pepperdine, UC Riverside, and Cal State Bakersfield. Not only being the top team in the meet, LMU women's Cross-Country finished the season with five personal bests.
Cassandra Salazar was the top finisher placing 3rd overall. Salazar ran a personal best crossing the finish line at 18:17. Fellow freshman Kelly McEnerney also finished with a personal best. McEnerney placed 18th overall completing the 5k course in 19:01. In her final meet of her collegiate career, Caitlin Jennings finished on top. Placing 30th overall, the senior from Manhattan Beach finished in her best time of the season at 19:27. Freshmen Madeline Hess-Maple and Kylie Hunsaker ran almost identical times, finishing 32nd and 33rd overall. Hunsaker ran a 19:34.2 while Hess-Maple ran a personal best of 19:34.8. Junior Megan Lynch, freshman Elizabeth Murphy, and sophomore Shea Franklin rounded out the top runners for the lions. Lynch ran a personal best of 20:29 finishing in 43rd place while Murphy and Franklin finished back-to-back at 20:40 and 20:41 respectively.
"This is again a testament to the depth of our women's squad and a great way to finish for those whose season ended with this meet." Coach Scott Guerrero said. "We had two seniors participate so it was nice for them to be able to close out their seasons with a win."
On the men's side, the Lions placed fourth, just behind the top squads of UC Irvine, Men of Troy, and Cal Coast. The men did however defeat the top team from Pepperdine who placed fifth overall.
Freshman Erich Yanoschik led the men finishing in 7th place overall with a lifetime 8k best of 25:39. The number 2 and 3 runners also ran lifetime bests. Sophomore Michael Herrera ran a 26:37 (28th ) and freshman Oran Arms crossed the finished line at 27:25 (48th). In his last meet of his season and his career, senior Sean Sisk ran a season best 27:01 for 37th overall. Jacques Delouche finished 5th for the lions running the Fullerton course in 28:37 (67th overall).
Next up for the lions is the WCC Championships in Belmont, CA, Nov. 1. Race time begins at 9 a.m. in Belmont.
