Oct. 28, 2002

Brea, Calif. - On Saturday morning, the men's and women's cross country teams ran abbreviated squads at the 2002 Titan Cross Country Invitational in Carbon Canyon Park. LMU decided to rest a number of its top runners in preparation for the West Coast Conference Championships next week in Belmont.

The women's team placed sixth out of eight teams with 164 points, while the men finished seventh. Trinity Amalfitano was top runner for the Lion women, placing 33rd covering the 5k course in 20:05. UCLA Valerie Flores won the race in 18:12. It was the first race of the season for Amalfitano, after developing a stress fracture over the summer.

"Her time of 20:05 was a personal record and confirms that she is fit and ready to make a contribution for us next weekend at the conference meet," LMU head coach Scott Guerrero said.

The LMU men were paced by Greg Corry who clocked a 27:27 8k, while Aaron Sharp won the race in 25:29 running unattached.
