Cross Country Closes Out WCC Championships
LMU took the trails at Mission Bay Park for the conference championships.
SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The LMU men's and women's cross country teams wrapped up the WCC Championships at Mission Bay Park Friday morning, as the women finished fifth overall and the men took sixth in the team standings.
Portland claimed the championship on the women's side, it's 20th overall, with 42 points, edging out BYU (44) and San Francisco (47). Gonzaga finsihed with 139 points to claim fourth and LMU took fifth with 150.
BYU defended it's title on the men's side, earning its fourth championship in six years with 24 points. Portland (45) and San Francisco (92) rounded out the podium, while Gonzaga (123) and Saint Mary's (150) edged out LMU (168).
Kayla de Bondt lead the women's squad with a 21st-place showing in the 6K, clocking in at 21:48.2. The Lions claimed the 35-39 spots as Marisa Carino (22:51.1), Emily Hubert (22:54.1) Elena Garcia (23:00.7) and Maddi Vorgitch (23:01.9) comprised LMU's top five.
Jack Polerecky and Koby Pederson finished 21st and 22nd overall in the men's 8K, as each recorded a time of 25:19.4. Brandon Vientos finished 40th at 26:14.2, Jacob Heink took 47th at 26:31.9 and Mat Holton rounded out the LMU scorer's with a time of 26:38.5, good for 52nd overall.
