Four All-WCC Finishes and Freshman of the Year at WCC Championships

MALIBU, Calif. - Racing at Alumni Park on the campus of Pepperdine University Saturday morning in Malibu, the LMU men's and women's cross country teams placed a respective third and fourth at the 2013 West Coast Conference Championships.
The Lion men were paced by Weston Strum who finished 10th overall in 23:49, earning the senior a spot on the All-WCC team. Kevin Joerger was 18th in 24:11, John Pickhaver was 23rd in 25:01, Michael Duncan was 29th in 25:21 and Michael Vorgitch was 30th in 25:43 to round out the scoring Lions.
BYU took top team honors with 30 points, placing four runners in the top-10, including individual champion Jason Witt. Portland was second with 48 points followed by LMU in third with 110 points. The Lions just edged out Gonzaga for the third spot as the Zags finished with 112 points.
In the women's race is was once again senior Sheree Shea and junior Grace Graham-Zamudio who led the Lion contingent. Shea placed fourth overall in her final WCC Championship, crossing the finish line in 21:05. Graham-Zamudio was fifth in 21:11 while freshman Danielle Shanahan earned WCC Freshman of the Year honors with her 15th-place, 21:47 finish. Both Shea and Graham-Zamudio were named to the All-WCC First Team while Shanahan earned honorable mention honors.
San Francisco took the team title for the fifth straight year, placing four runners in the top-10 to score 39 points. Portland was second (62 points), BYU was third (62 points) and LMU took fourth with 79 points.
LMU's two teams will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 15 at the NCAA West Regional Championships in Sacramento.
