Shea Qualifies For National Championships, Lions Set Records at NCAA Regionals
10 of 14 Lions set personal-best times at West Regional in Seattle.

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Friday's NCAA Cross Country West Regional Championships was record breaking for the Lions. LMU Cross Country had 10 of its 14 runners set personal records at the meet, with two others setting season-best marks. LMU's women finished in the top half of the competition, led by senior Sheree Shea who finished 11th in the race, qualifying her for the NCAA Cross Country National Championships next Saturday. Weston Strum was in front of the men's team which finished 19th at the Regionals.
Shea finished with a personal record time of 19:55, topping her previous best set at the 2012 West Coast Conference Championships by 39 seconds, for 11th overall. The senior was the top finisher in the regional from the WCC. She was one of two women to finish in the top-12 not from a Pac-12 team.
Senior Caroline Draper also set a personal-best time at the West Regional. She crossed the finish line at 21:11, besting her prior record by 12 seconds, for 63rd overall. Callie Mulgannon finished in 21:18, 73rd in the race. Redshirt-senior Cassandra Salazar set a PR at the meet recording a time of 21:25, 84th in the race. Senior Brittnie Munoz finished 106th overall, crossing at 21:40, her best this season.
The Lions finished 13th in the race, in the top half of the 28 teams competing, and the third-best finish amongst WCC teams. The University of Oregon won the West Regional. The University of San Francisco finished fifth, Portland finished eighth.
Strum led LMU's men, with a 45th place result, recording a time of 30:30, a personal record for the junior. Sophomore Daniel Gibson set a PR in the 10k with a 31:15 for 88th. Junior Kevin Joerger had a time of 31:19, another Lion PR, for 93rd in the race. Senior Sterling Lockert set a season-best at the Regional with a 32:12 for 128th. Freshman Michael Duncan finished the course in 32:25, a PR, and 137th overall.
LMU finished 19th in the race of 26 teams. Stanford University won the Regional. The University of Portland finished second, San Francisco finished 12th, Gonzaga finished 14th.
