STANFORD, Calif.- Several Lions had record-setting days at the NCAA West Regionals held at the Stanford University Golf Course in Stanford, Calif. Red-shirt senior Tara Erdmann broke her own personal record with a finish of 19:53 in the 6k race. Sophomore Weston Strum broke the LMU record in the 10k with a time of 30:35. Junior Tyre Johnson and red-shirt senior Connor Pastoor also set personal-bests at the meet.
LMU's women were led by Erdmann who qualified for the NCAA Cross Country National Championships with her record breaking time of 19:53. In a career that has seen her break record after record, Erdmann's sub-20 minute finish was her best time in a 6k race. She qualified for her 6th National Championship by placing 3rd overall, only 9 seconds behind overall winner Jordan Hasay from the University of Oregon, and 2 seconds behind Deborah Maier from the University of California. Erdmann will race again Hasay and Maier in less than two weeks in Terre Haute, Ind. at the National Championships.
Senior Brieanna Delaney finished the race in 22:03 for 85th overall. Junior Caroline Draper was next for the Lions crossing in 22:25 for 115th. Fellow junior Jessica Mumaugh finished 145th overall with a time of 22:52. Making her first appearance at the West Regional, freshman Aeoleone Bristow finished the race with a time of 23:19, 172nd overall. The women finished 20th in a crowded field with 31 teams.
For the men, Strum's record time of 30:35 was the 51st best time overall. Pastoor's personal-best time of 31:47 earned him 111th overall. Johnson finished in 31:52, his personal-best, and was 114th overall. Sophomore Kevin Joerger was next for LMU finishing in 32:12 for 131st. Junior Michael Carlone rounded out the Lions' scoring five with a time of 34:02 in 154th place. The Lions finished 21st overall.
LMU had a record breaking day to finish the team's schedule for the 2011. Next for Lions will be Tara Erdmann's 7th run at a national championship.
