Ali Mann Joins LMU Cross Country/Track Coaching Staff
Nike Team Run L.A. member brings USA Track and Field experience to Lions
July 8, 2009
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Ali Mann, a member of Nike's Team Run L.A., has joined the LMU coaching staff as a volunteer assistant, Head Coach of Cross Country and Track and Field Scott Guerrero announced Wednesday.
"Ali is a great find for our program," Guerrero said. "She brings to the table a wealth of talent and experience in training and racing at a very high level. She is still a tremendous competitor and will push our student-athletes to follow suit."
A native of Fayetteville, NY, Mann is a graduate of Fayetteville-Manlius High School. She served as team captain for both the track and cross country programs at FHMS, a perennial power that won the Nike Cross Country National Championship in 2006, 2007 & 2008. She then went on to have an outstanding collegiate career at The College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA. In cross country she was a member of the team that placed 17th at the 1997 NCAA Championship and 10th at the 1998 NCAA Championships. She also helped the Tribe to Colonial Athletic Association team titles in 1996, 1997, and 1998, winning All-CAA honors in 1998 and 1999. On the track, she still holds the school Freshman Outdoor Record in the 800m, having run 2:13.40 in 1997. She was also a member of the team that was twice awarded USTFCCCA Team Academic All-America status. Mann was also a 2000 NCAA qualifier in the 1500m with a then personal best of 4:23.
Following her graduation from William & Mary in 2000 with a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Kinesiology and a teaching credential in Physical Education and Health, she went on to teach full-time and continue her competitive running career. She is currently a Health Teacher at Culver City High School and competes locally for Nike Team Run L.A. In 2003, she was a USA Track and Field qualifier in the steeplechase. She still regularly competes in several disciplines as she prepares for the USA Track and Field Championships and Olympic Trials. Her respective post-collegiate personal bests are 2:07 (800m), 4:21 (1500m), 4:47 (mile), 10:27 (steeplechase), and 17:05 (5000m).
Mann replaces Jason Zarb-Cousin, who recently returned to his alma mater, the U.S. Air Force Academy, after four years at LMU.
