Men's and Women's Teams face stiffest competition yet.
Sept. 11, 2008
Los Angeles, CA -
After finishing in the middle of the pack last year, LMU Cross Country looks to capitalize on their already successful season with a high placing at San Diego State Aztec Invitational on Saturday.
At last year’s meet the men’s team finished in 7th place out of twelve teams, just behind champion Air Force, second place UCSB, and sixth place CSU San Marcos who are all returning this year. Senior Trevor Wiseman finished first for the Lions, running the 8,000 meters in 26:28 and junior Brian McDonald just five seconds behind with 26:33. Sophomore Connor Pastoor, who is in his first season of collegiate running, placed the highest for the lions last week at the Asics/UC Irvine Invitational. He will also make an impact on LMU’s placing along with fellow newcomers, freshmen Thomas Finnigan and Phillip Benavides.
The women’s team won’t be outdone. After a 6th place finish last year at the Aztec, the lions look to up end returning champions Arkansas, third place finisher Northern Arizona and fourth place finisher USC. Sophomore Tara Erdmann will make a big impact on the scoring for the lions this year. After finishing second last week at Asics/UC Irvine Invitational and 14th at the Aztec last year, Erdmann will get help from freshmen duo Brieanna Delaney and Stephanie Felix who placed in the top 25 last week.
“I am definitely excited to see how we stack up against the competition this year.” Coach Scott Guerrero said. "Our goal is just to go out there and compete."
The women's team will run at 9:00 a.m. with the men following at 9:30 a.m. in San Diego.
