SAN BRUNO, Calif. - The LMU men's cross country team was picked fourth in the 2014 West Coast Conference Preseason Poll, as voted on by the league's nine head coaches.

The Lions edged San Francisco by two points for fourth place, totaling 41 points. Portland earned five first place votes and 61 points on its way to being selected first. BYU tallied the four other first place votes and 60 total points to be selected second. Gonzaga was picked third with 48 points.

LMU finished third in the nine-team field last fall with three seniors leading the pack. But it was a tight pack, and seniors Michael Vorgitch and Daniel Gibson are back this fall. In addition the 2014 Lion squad features seven freshmen with exciting potential.

Rookie Mat Holton was the Lions' top finisher in the team's season opening race two weeks ago while fellow freshmen Christopher Fredlund and Jack Polerecky finished third and fourth among the LMU contingent.

The Lions are back at it Saturday, competing in the WCC Preview Meet, hosted by Santa Clara.
