Cross Country Posts Top Five Finish

San Diego, Calif. - The Loyola Marymount University men's and women's cross country teams both had excellent showings at the Aztec Invitational, Saturday morning. The men placed fourth with 99 points in the Open competition, while the women placed sixth out of 12 with 160 points.

The Lions' Bernie Ochoa paced LMU for the second consecutive week, with a 10th place showing. The sophomore ran a 28:40, while Westmont's Jason Finch won the race in 26:41. Point Loma Nazarene won the event with 47 points. LMU sophomore Andy Thompson also had a strong showing with a 29:28 17th place effort.

The LMU women were once again led by freshman Lara Del Rio. The Florida state high school mile champion from a year ago ran a 19:57 to finish 10th. Westmont also claimed the women's individual champion as Sarah Eyman ran 19:00. San Diego won the team competition with 54 points.

Lion head coach Scott Guerrero also competed in the Open event, placing 32nd with a 30:29.
