Prestigious Stanford Invitational On Deck
The LMU men's and women's cross country teams will face stiff competition in a full field at the Stanford Invitational.
LOS ANGELES - The LMU men's and women's cross country team are back in action Saturday, Sept. 27, racing in the prestigious Stanford Invitational held at the Stanford Golf Course.
The men's and women's collegiate races are part of a full slate of races on the day with the men's 8k scheduled for 9:50 a.m. and the women's 6k following at 10:30 a.m. There are 44 total colleges and universities scheduled to compete and 3,244 runners altogether, including from the 12 high school races.
LMU's men, ranked No. 15 in the most recent USTFCCCA Regional Poll, are one of 20 Division I teams competing, including WCC members Pepperdine, San Francisco, Santa Clara and Saint Mary's. Stanford is the highest ranked men's program in the field, currently ranked No. 2 in the West and No. 5 in the nation. The Lion men took second behind the Cardinal in 2013.
On the women's side, 22 total Division I teams are slated to race, including WCC members Pacific, Pepperdine, San Francisco and Santa Clara. The Lions enter the week ranked No. 8 in the latest USTFCCCA West Region Poll. Stanford leads the field with a No. 2 regional and No. 4 national ranking. Behind an eighth place finish by Grace Graham-Zamudio, the Lions took third overall last fall.
