Cross Country Ready to Run with Alums

Briefly. . .
The Loyola Marymount cross country teams competed in the 30th annual Stanford Invitational last weekend at the Stanford Golf Course. The men finished 18th, while the women placed 21st in their distance brackets. Sophomore Adam Bacon and junior Andy Thompson paced the men, both finishing the 8k in 27:10. The men finished in a team average time of 27:38. Following Bacon and Thompson were sophomores David Steinhafel, Kenny Arehart, and Greg Corry who rounded out the scoring five crossing the line at 27:27, 27:46, and 28:33, respectively. In West Coast Conference head-to-head scoring, the men out-scored Saint Mary's 18-39 but fell to Santa Clara 15-44. San Francisco ran two participants in the 4000m race, but did not field a team. The women placed 21st of 26 squads, averaging a team time of 24:35 for the 6k. Two freshmen once again led the Lions, with Kristen Gonzalez and Katie Strachan finishing in 23:47 and 24:30, respectively. Sophomore Lara Del Rio crossed the line at 24:50 and junior Alexis Gernhardt finished her second collegiate race in 24:52. Freshman Melani Hom rounded out the women's scoring five in 24:53. The women beat San Francisco (28-29) and Saint Mary's (21-37), but fell to Santa Clara (15-44) in WCC head-to-head scoring.

Up next for the Lions is the Alumni Run, held as part of the Manhattan Beach 10k. LMU cross country alumni will join the varsity squads for the community run which begins at 7:30 a.m.
