Capital Cross Challenge on Tap
The Lion men and women will race on Saturday at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in Sacramento.
LOS ANGELES - LMU's men's and women's cross country teams are back in action Saturday, Oct. 3, racing in the Capital Cross Challenge hosted by Sacramento State. The meet, featuring 10 Division I women's teams and seven Division I men's squads, will be contested at the Haggis Oaks Golf Complex. The women's 5k begins at 9:15 a.m. followed by the men's 8k at 9:45 a.m.
The Lion women are two weeks removed from a team win at the Mustang Challenge in Santa Clarita, Calif. In her first competition of the fall season, junior Danielle Shanahan took home the women's individual title and was one of three Lions to place in the top 10. LMU will race against nine total DI opponents, including four from the West Coast Conference - Saint Mary's, Pepperdine, Pacific and San Diego.
LMU's men will seek a third straight top-10 performance from sophomore Jack Polerecky, who began the season with an individual win at the Mark Covert Classic, followed by a ninth-place finish at the Mustang Challenge two weeks ago. The young Lions continue to see growth in their underclassmen, along with steady pace from their juniors and seniors. Among the men's 8k competitors in Sacramento will be three other WCC teams in Pepperdine, Saint Mary's and San Diego.
This marks the first of three October meets for the two Lion squads prior to the West Coast Conference Championships on November 1 in Spokane, Wa.
