LMU Back in Action at Cal Poly Invite
Lions ready for final "tune-up" before WCC Championship.
Oct. 12, 2005
Los Angeles, Calif. - LMU's men's and women's cross country squads return to competition this weekend at the Cal Poly Invitational. The Lions have had two weekends off from collegiate competition, using the break to hold their annual Alumni Run at the Manhattan Beach 10K and to prepare for this weekend.
According to Head Coach Scott Guerrero, LMU will use the Cal Poly Invitational as its final "tune-up" for the West Coast Conference Championship, scheduled for Saturday, October 29, in San Jose, Calif. The Lions' entrants for the WCC Championship, as well as for the NCAA Regional on November 12, will likely be determined based on the results from this weekend.
The Cal Poly Invitational will feature WCC foes Pepperdine and San Diego, along with the host Mustangs. Cal Poly's men's squad is currently ranked 10th in the Division I national rankings. Other participants this weekend include UC Santa Barbara, whose women finished 17th in the nation in 2004 and UC Irvine. LMU's women found success over host Cal Poly at the Stanford Invitational earlier this season.
The race will be held at Fairbanks Memorial Cross Country Course, a similar course to the one the Lions will face at the WCC Championship. The women's university division race will begin at 9:00 a.m., with the men's race starting at 9:30 a.m.
