LOS ANGELES – LMU cross country heads to Baylands Regional Park (999 E Caribbean Drive) in Sunnyvale, Calif. for Santa Clara University’s Bronco Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 14. The Lion men will be competing in the 8K college invitational at 8 a.m., while the women will hit the course for the 6K college invitational at 8:45 a.m. The men’s open 8K (9:30 a.m.) and women’s open 6K (10:15 a.m.) will follow.

The Bronco Invitational takes place two weeks prior to WCC championship weekend and the meet provides an opportunity for the Lions to go against several conference competitors for the first time this season on a flat and fast course. The team looks to improve on the women’s third place and men’s fifth place finishes from last season’s Bronco Invitational. Senior Danielle Shanahan hopes to repeat as the women’s champion after setting a new course record of 19:50 in the 2016 women’s 6K as an unattached runner.

“This will be an excellent opportunity to see where we are two weeks out from Conference,” Lions head coach Scott Guerrero said. “It will be great to see where we stand against WCC teams we have not run against yet this year.”

LMU cross country last competed on Sept. 30 when the team traveled to Sacramento for the Capital Cross Challenge. A first-place finish for Shanahan (20:23.2, 6K) gave the Lion women a third place finish in Sacramento, while the men also placed third behind a strong performance by Jack Polerecky (24:26.6, 5th overall in 8K).
