Lion Harriers Race at Pre-Nationals
LMU's men's and women's cross country teams will face a true test Saturday at the Pre-Nationals Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind.
LOS ANGELES - The LMU men's and women's cross country teams will race in their final tune up for next month's West Coast Conference Championships this weekend. But Saturday's race will be anything but a tune up as the Lions face off against top programs across the nation at the Pre Nationals Invitational hosted by Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Ind.
As of Oct. 11, both the men's 8K and women's 6K had 79 entered teams that will all have the opportunity to race on the La Vern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, the same course that the 2014 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships will be competed on. LMU's women will race in the "White Race" at 12:15 p.m. CT along with 38 other teams. The Lion men will race at 12:55 p.m. CT in the "White Race" with 34 other teams.
This marks LMU's first return to the Pre-Nationals since 2011. The Lions also competed at the Invitational in 2010.
Racing on the women's side will be Kyra Burke, Chloe Curtis, Kayla de Bondt, Lorena Garcia, Grace Graham-Zamudio, Danielle Shanahan and Kelli Sugimoto. Shanahan had a standout month of September for the Lions, earning WCC Runner of the Month after earning three top-5 finishes, including a first-place finish at the WCC Preview Meet.
For the men it will be Lance Capel, Michael Duncan, Christopher Fredlund, Daniel Gibson, Jack Polerecky, Brandon Vientos and Michael Vorgitch.
