Lions Contend for WCC Championships
The first West Coast Conference champions of the 2014-15 season will be crowned Saturday as cross country competes at Baylands Park in Sunnvale.
LOS ANGELES - Championship season is upon the LMU men's and women's cross country teams as they head to Baylands Park in Sunnyvale, Calif., for Saturday's 2014 West Coast Conference Championships. The women's 6k will start things off at 10 a.m. followed by the men's 8k at 11 a.m.
For the fourth consecutive season, the Championship will be streamed live. TheW.tv, the official digital platform of the West Coast Conference, will be providing exclusive coverage of the event live from Baylands Park. The live "Watch" link for the men's and women's races is available here: http://thew.tv/live/cross-country-wcc-championship.
If the league's preseason poll should remain any indication, the Lion women are prepared for a tight race up front. LMU was selected to finish in a tie for third in that poll, while also receiving two first-place votes. Portland earned three first-place votes, San Francisco garnered four and BYU had one.
In the most recent USTFCCCA West Regional Poll, released Oct. 20, Portland was ranked No. 7, LMU was ranked No. 11 and San Francisco was No. 14. BYU was ranked No. 4 in the Mountain Region.
LMU's men were selected fourth in the WCC Preseason poll after returning just three of their top seven from a season ago. The Lions have had no clear front runner this fall, but the short gap between one through seven has proven to be advantageous.
